About

Institute of Noetic Sciences

The Institute of Noetic Sciences, founded in 1973 by Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit research, education, and membership organization whose mission is supporting individual and collective transformation through consciousness research, educational outreach, and engaging a global learning community in the realization of our human potential. “Noetic” comes from the Greek word nous, which means “intuitive mind” or “inner knowing.” IONS conducts, sponsors, and collaborates on leading-edge research into the potentials and powers of consciousness, exploring phenomena that do not necessarily fit conventional scientific models while maintaining a commitment to scientific rigor. Austin Community Group

Started in 1993 by Don Switlick and currently led by Gloria Hill, the Austin Community Group is an unincorporated nonprofit association* offering local members and friends of IONS an opportunity to meet, explore noetic topics, and support one another in our quests for wisdom and service.

We meet on the second Tuesday of each month except for December. The doors open at 6 p.m. , and the meeting begins at 6:30 with a presentation, video, or group discussion at 7:00. Meetings are free and open to the public, and we invite returning guests to join us.

*Community Groups are self-organizing, self-directing, voluntary associations of members and their friends. Views expressed by leaders, speakers, and participants do not necessarily reflect the views of IONS or anyone associated with The Institute of Noetic Sciences.
